Attorney-at-law, Dr. Sonya Walkila specializes in litigation, fundamental and human rights, and provides legal advice to companies, organizations, and individuals. Sonya has successfully handled criminal, civil, and administrative cases at all court levels. She is a member and an approved mediator of the Finnish Bar Association.

Prior to co-founding the firm, Sonya worked as Senior Legal Adviser (Legislative Affairs) at the Ministry of Justice, where she provided legal advice to the state administration on matters relating to EU law, fundamental rights, and EU institutions. Sonya has served at the Court of Justice of the European Union in the chambers of Judge H. Kanninen, and as a judicial member of the National Non-Discrimination and Equality Tribunal.

Sonya holds a doctoral law degree (LL.D.) from the University of Helsinki. Her dissertation focuses on the application of fundamental rights in Europe. She lectures widely on fundamental and human rights and collaborates with the state administration, academia, and EU agencies and institutions. Sonya represents companies, organizations, and individuals also in proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights.

Sonya is the Chair of the Fundamental and Human Rights Expert Group of the Finnish Bar Association. She is also a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE).
